I now have over a thousand watchers, and I just wanted to say Thank You Thank You Thank YOU!! To all of you guys that have chosen to add me to your watch I want you to know that I appreciate it very much!

I know that it's not a lot of watchers compared to some of you guys with thousands of watchers, but PERSONALLY I can't believe that over a thousand people have chosen to add me to their watch! WOW! I'm so honored!

And I'd love to do something to celebrate. So I'm holding a contest (well a drawing really) where I'll be giving one of my watchers a free commission as a thank you to you guys. I wish I had the time and energy to do commissions for everyone, but sadly I'm just one person and that many commission would take me years! lol But one of you guys will get a free commission!

Here's how it works:

The Contest/Drawing
You must be a current watcher and leave a comment here telling me who your favorite artist is and why, by doing that you'll automatically get your name put into a drawing. After a few days I'll close the journal entry and draw one of the names at random. Whatever name I draw, that person gets a commission of their choice. This contest/drawing is for my watchers only, so if you want to participate you must be a current watcher (I don't want people adding me to their watch just on the off chance that they will get a free commission! lol Watch me for my art! haha). :)

Doing it this way is for two reasons - One, it helps me to get to know you guys a little better. By knowing who your favorite artists are it gives me a better understanding of your artistic influences. And Two, it gives me more artists to look up and check out. If I like them too, then awesome! I can add them to my watch and gain inspiration from their work. :) And that's one of the reasons why we are here right? To help inspire and motivate each other! :D

The Free Commission
The winner of the drawing will get a free commission. You can commission me to color something, ink something, draw something, or all the above (draw, ink, and color something). I can work on your existing art or do something for you from scratch. But it must be a single image and nothing too complex (please don't ask me to color an image with a dozen characters in it lol, I just wouldn't have the time to do that and keep up with my paid commission work). So nothing too complex please! ;)

So, as my third grade teacher liked to say - 'Get your thinking caps on' and tell me who YOUR favorite artist is and why. They don't have to be here on DA. And you can name more than one artist if you'd like. But you have to name at least one artist and tell me WHY they are your favorite. I look forward to seeing your responses. :)

Thank you again, to all of you for the watches and comments and all the awesome support! You guys keep me going and growing!

~Stacy

Easy one. Barry Windsor Smith.
It can be said that BWS is responsible for the birth of a style that morphed into the super detailed, crosshatchi crazy styles of the 90's comic book boom. His work on Conan Red Nails showed a whole generation that comicbook panels can be full of background detail still push the main character forward, which was fairly foreign in a world of Kirby Crackles and energy speed lines.

Bws continued to push through the norm by inking, coloring and lettering his own books which was unheard of in the big two. You can't look at his pages and just see comic art. You see masterfully crafted works of art that have been made available for mass viewing.

There you have it.

Now on to congratulating you on 1000 watchers. Pretty amazing feat and well deserved. Respect.

So many artists to think of. I can't possibly just think of one. Guess it's time for a list.

Stjepan Sejic, Alex Maleev, Jerome Opena, Ryan Stegman, Chris Bachalo, Steve Epting, Ryan Otley. This is just off the top of my head. So many good artists out there in the world. You being one of them, too.

Let's see, favorite artists...

I think I'm going to break this down into categories.

For pencils, by far hands down my favorite is :icondemitri12jim:, which is probably why I've inked more of his pieces than anyone else. The amount of detail and well thought out composition that goes into his work is astounding. His pieces are certainly a challenge to work on, and have literally taken me months to ink in the past, but adding something of my own to a piece done by an artist of that caliber is a great feeling. I wish I had even the slightest shred of drawing ability that Jimbo has.

For inks, :icondevgear: cranks out amazing lines with a precision and speed that is mind-blowing. I constantly wish I had more hours in my day so that I could simply practice coloring lines that James has lent his inks to.

For colors, and probably my biggest inspiration on this list, :iconseane: takes the cake. A school teacher by day, a digital coloring genius by night, Sean gives any alter-ego super hero a run for their money. I think the reason that I draw so much inspiration from Sean is that he started his journey into digital coloring in his 30s (like me) and over the past 10 years has honed his hobbyist beginnings into a skill-set that sets the bar for what professional coloring should be.

Last, but certainly not least, for overall original creation :iconnebezial:. Now, I love to ink and color and write, but I honestly haven't picked up a comic book or graphic novel in about 20 years. When I saw what Stjepan was doing with Ravine, with it's immaculate blend of traditional art methods, digital precision, and CG renderings I was blown away and knew that if there was a book to end my 20 year fast on, this would be the one. Not only is he a fantastic artist, if you follow him here on dA, you will quickly realize that he will lend that art to his quirky sense of humor at the drop of a hat for hilarious results.

Favorite artist? I refuse to narrow it down to just one.
But one of my favorites is Cam De Leon ( [link] ). You've most likely seen his work, but don't know his name. He did a lot of work for a small band called TOOL. The reason I like his work so much is it creates an atmosphere when viewing. When I look at the image link to earlier, which hangs in front of my desk, I can hear parts of my favorite TOOL songs, which also create and atmosphere. So his work just stimulates more than just the visual senses. And if that babble makes no sense, I just fuckin like it!

It's difficult to pick one artist as the favorite...I'll go with John Byrne. I love his art no matter what title it's in. He's a true master! :D

On deviantart, I enjoy GARV23 a lot, but there are so many others. Your coloring of The Black Cat Felicia is awesome, so in all fairness (and honesty!), I'd be foolish not to include you.

As for non-deviantart, I particularly enjoy Julie Bell and Olivia de Berardinis.

Although I've been with deviantart for 2 years, I haven't been active checking out artists' work unless very recently. I've been wanting to practice drawing again, but life's challenges thwart that much too often.

Regardless of the outcome of this contest, thank you for the opportunity! Sleep with angels, be they naughty or nice!

I am watching you, my dear sweet Lady.

I have to go outside dA and back in time to answer this question. Here goes... My favorite artist is Ansel Adams. Yes, he is a well known photographer, but his camera work turns photos into art every time he pushes the shutter button down.

Ansel invented the way black and white film is used to capture spectacular scenes of nature. He taught us the use of the seven stop range from shadow to highlight. He taught us how to employ the rule of thirds to arrive at perfect composition every time. And his subject matter revealed the profound beauty of the Yellow Stone National Park as only Mister Adams could capture it on film.

In short, Ansel Adams was a master. I believe the man who invented the camera somehow knoew Ansel Adams would come along and show the world how to really use it to the fullest.

Mine would have to be Vest. Not only is his work amazing, he is more than willing to help out a relative newbie with tip and tricks, and his color-me-club is the my favorite group here on DA.
